SoCal Explorer Competition




Scenarios
The scenarios are designed to develop leadership, situational awareness, and a deeper understanding of law enforcement procedures while fostering a spirit of friendly competition. These will challenge explorers' critical thinking, adaptability, and teamwork while simulating real-world law enforcement experiences.

Active Shooter
Explorers will respond to a call of a critical incident. Team members will assess the situation and respond accordingly.
20-Minute time limit.
One six-person team per Post
Traffic Collision
Explorers will respond to a traffic collision and use the appropriate action to manage the situation.
20-Minute time limit.
One six-person team per Post
Team Obstacle Course
Explorers will be timed while completing an obstacle course. A six-foot wall, push-ups and sit-ups will be incorporated into this year's course. (Teams/Explorers are to wear appropriate uniform pants/BDU's, boots and T-shirt)

Undercover Operations
Explorers will utilize surveillance and undercover techniques to conduct an undercover buy and possible arrest. Teams will be provided an Ops plan with additional information during competition check-in.

Welfare Check
Explorers must assess the situation, attempt to make contact, and communicate observations clearly while maintaining officer safety and scene awareness.

Domestic Violence
Explorers will dispatched to a investigate a possible domestic violence incident

One four-person team per Post
Dignitary Protection
New for 2025. Teams will provide security for an elevated risk, dignitary speaking engagement. The team will be provided with an operations plan prior to the event. This scenario is intended to challenge the Explorer team in every capacity including pre-event building sweeps, crowd assessment and dignitary extraction.

One six-eight person team per Post.
Pedestrian Stop
Explorers will respond to a pedestrian and respond accordingly.
20-Minute time limit.
One four-person team per Post
Traffic Stop
Explorers will make an enforcement stop. The Explorers will contact the occupant(s) of the vehicle and take the appropriate action as dictated by the violator.
20-Minute time limit.
Two, Two-Person teams per Post
High Risk Stop
Explorers will conduct a high-risk vehicle stop. Team will consist of a 2-person primary and 2-person secondary unit. Department specific arrest techniques may be used.

One four-person team per Post
Officer Needs Assistance
Explorers will respond to an officer needs assistance call. Team members will assess the situation and respond accordingly.

One four-person team and One two-person team per Post
DUI Evaluation
Explorers will contact an individual(s) and investigate/evaluate possible violations and take the appropriate action based on their observations. Team will not be allowed to use P.A.S. device, checklist, or cheater cards.

Two, Two-Person teams per Post
Building Search
Explorers will enter a structure of unknonw size and configuration and attempt to locate and take appropriate action based on their findings.
20-Minute time limit.
One six-person team per Post
Disturbance
Explorers will contact an individual(s) and are to assess a use of force scenario. They will have to use command presence and appropriate force options (provided) to resolve the situation.

Suspicious Circumstances
Explorers will encounter an incident involving a possible suicidal subject.
20-minute time limit.

Notice
Explorers will not know what scenario they will be going into until their briefing with the proctor. This will encourage all Explorers to be prepared for every scenario. **Scenarios are subject to change**
